Saturday Bounty

Have you heard of Bountiful Baskets? It's a non-profit organization that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables to locations in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oreon Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. This was my first week participating and this was my "catch": 1 lb champagne grapes (yummy on cereal this morning!), celery, romaine lettuce, a bag of plums, 6 oranges, 7 bananas, 4 tomatoes, 7 nectarines, 3 mangoes, a bag of green beans, 2 heads of brocolli, and 7 sweet potatoes! More than enough to eat all week, I plan to share with my daughter.

Here's the scoop on Bountiful Baskets from their website:

Sally Stevens and Tanya Jolly started Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op in May of 2006. It was a winning combination from the beginning. Tanya and Sally both had experience running their own small food co-ops that were not web based. As their small co-ops grew it challenged them to think of a way to keep up as more families were wanting to save money on healthy food. Adding a little bit of e-commerce technology to the mix was just the trick. Since May of 2006 BBFC has grown from 2 sites and an average of 120 families a cycle participating, to over hundreds of sites in seven states and around 70,000 participating families! In June of 2008 BBFC started to offer 100% organic baskets every other week.

The Co-op offers a conventional produce basket very other week which is generally ½ fruit and ½ veggies. The monetary contribution is $15.00 and is generally worth $50.00 retail. Organic baskets require a contribution of $25 and are usually about the same amount of produce as the conventional baskets. To participate visit http://www.BountifulBaskets.org and check the schedule to see when your state is available to make your monetary contribution using a debit or credit card. Then, pick up your basket on Saturday morning at the time and place you chose when you contributed!

Bags Galore

I sometimes find myself in a sort of "knitting rut", most often when I am developing a new pattern or find something I want to make for sale in my Etsy store. So it is with a series of Window Pane Bags I have been knitting. I have the pattern for sale on Ravelry and Etsy.

First I knit this bag with Plymouth Galway Paints in a blue (twice) and then a green colorway as shown in the top photo.

I was asked to knit samples for two yarn stores that carry my patterns, hence my newest versions The first one uses two skeins of Galway Paints, the second one 5 skeins of Nashua Handknits Wooly Stripes. I also have some bulky Knit Picks yarn on order and will try this bag with that option.

I had to laugh because one of the first things my grand daughter said was "too hot" after which she removed the doll's sweater and dress. Then she put the dress on her head and wore it as a hat!
